Infrared Sauna

Unfortunately the sauna is temporarily out of service, please email me for more information.

What it is and why it’s good for you.

Heliotherapy (controlled sun exposure) has been practiced for centuries due to its many health effects some of which are owed to the infrared wave spectrum . Over 40% of solar waves that reaches the earth is infrared radiation. Unfortunately, those living in the northern hemisphere, people who spend lots of time indoors or use sunscreen excessively do not reap the many benefits sun exposure has to offer. Healthcare practitioners worldwide have been recommending an indoor infrared light therapy for many years. Today infrared saunas provide some of the advantages of natural sunlight with addition of detoxification through sweat.

How does it work?

Infrared radiation is absorbed by the body and converted to thermal energy, heating you directly rather than the air around you, like a conventional sauna would. Infrared waves pass through your skin and deep into your tissues, this causes fat cells to vibrate and release toxins. This therapy also works by raising your core temperature, resulting in increased heart rate and dilated blood vessels. Increased blood flow improves circulation and allows for greater oxygen and nutrient delivery, lowers blood pressure, and stimulates the body’s natural defences.

Benefits:

Cardiovascular Health

Long term regular sauna use has been correlated with lower incidence of death from heart disease compared with non-sauna users.

Infrared sauna therapy benefits cardiovascular function by improving blood vessel lining function, reducing arterial stiffness, improving blood pressure, reducing inflammation, and promoting new blood vessel formation.

Sauna users have improved cardiovascular conditioning and exercise tolerance.  Patients with heart disease showed improved stress test performance and increased treadmill exercise time after a study period of infrared sauna use. Sedentary young adults had reduced blood pressure and improved vascular heath after 8 weeks of sauna use.

Reduced Muscle and Joint Pain

By increasing your heart rate, the saunas helps to speed up the breakdown of metabolic waste from your muscles, like lactic acid, and increase blood flow to aid injury recovery, so you feel better faster. Infrared heat elevates your core body temperature, capillaries and arteries dilate allowing more oxygen rich blood to travel to areas of tension and pain. Your muscles, joints, and soft tissue experience relief and healing.

Reduced Stress

Infrared saunas stimulate your “rest and digest” response (the opposite of the “fight or flight” response), which tells your body to conserve energy, rest and recover. This state of relaxation helps lower your stress.

Detox

The infrared wavelengths cause the fat cells in the adipose tissue to vibrate, making them disperse and release heavy metals and toxins into the bloodstream to be expelled through the skin, kidneys, and other organs that function to eliminate toxins.

Why is it important to detox?

Unfortunately, toxic residues are a part of a modern world and are present in the air, food, water and even in our homes and beauty products. Currently there is a wealth of scientific evidence showing that thousands of drugs, preservatives, pesticides, and other pollutants bioaccumulate in the human body. Pollution related mortality is the unintended consequence of industrialisation and have risen by over 65% since the year 2000. Literature documenting illness in humans from toxic exposure include cancers, liver disease, pulmonary damage, nervous system disease, immune system damage, reproductive and fertility impairment, and kidney dysfunction. Making detoxification a very important part of taking care of your health.
